Rebuild the terrain before giving an opinion on it: the vocabulary people search with, the real questions, the sources these systems consult and the competitors that appear in those answers.
Method
For years, a brand's visibility came down to a reasonably simple question: which positions it appeared in. Today that question falls short. A person can find your company without ever having seen your site, because an artificial intelligence assistant mentioned it in an answer it wrote itself, with sources you did not choose and may not know. When that happens, most brands have no way of knowing.
Search Intelligence is the methodology with which Sageo Estudio works on that problem. Its starting point is an uncomfortable but necessary idea: before intervening in a brand's visibility, you have to understand what is really going on. Not how it looked two years ago, not how it should look, but what is there today.
It is not a tool, it is not a product and it is not a commercial brand. It is an orderly way of researching, measuring and interpreting before touching anything, and of checking afterwards whether the change helped. That is its whole content, and it is enough to change the way you work.
The methodology is organized into five steps that are always followed in the same order.
Rebuild the terrain before giving an opinion on it: the vocabulary people search with, the real questions, the sources these systems consult and the competitors that appear in those answers.
Record the situation as it stands. What a search engine says, what an AI system answers, whether the brand appears, whether it is mentioned, whether it is cited and which other sources it shares space with.
Explain what was measured. A data point without a reading is not a diagnosis. Here you decide what the result means and what probable cause it has.
Change something concrete and justified: content, structure, data, sources. Only what the previous interpretation has pointed to as a cause.
Repeat the measurement with the same criteria to find out whether the change produced the expected effect, another effect or none at all.
Nobody should intervene without having measured. The sentence sounds obvious and it is broken all the time. The usual thing is to start at the end: the title is changed, the services page is rewritten, new content is published, and only afterwards does someone ask what the initial situation was.
That inverted order produces two problems that are hard to repair. The first is that no baseline exists: without a prior measurement there is no way of knowing whether the change helped, because there is nothing to compare it against. The second is that you intervene blindly, guided by hunches or by recipes repeated from one project to another. Sometimes it works, and that is precisely why the habit holds.
Measuring first also forces an uncomfortable honesty: many times the diagnosis is not the one that was expected. It may turn out that the problem is not the quality of the content, but that the systems answering have no reason at all to trust the brand; or that the brand is mentioned, but in a way that does not suit it. None of those conclusions is reached by intervening.
Without a prior measurement, any intervention is a gamble. The methodology exists to reduce that gamble, not to disguise it.
Visibility is played out today on three different layers, and it is best not to mix them. All three matter, but each one optimizes something different.
Optimization for search engines. It seeks to make content crawlable and indexable and to answer search intent. It is the oldest of the three and it is still the base.
Answer Engine Optimization. The user does not receive ten links: they receive an answer. What matters is what gets answered and, above all, whether the brand is part of that answer.
Generative Engine Optimization. The system does not choose a link: it generates text by combining sources and decides whom it mentions and whom it cites. Here you compete to be a source.
The underlying difference is this: in SEO you compete for a position; in AEO and in GEO you compete to appear inside an answer that someone else writes. It is a change of nature, not of degree. A brand can have an excellent position in search engines and never be mentioned in a generated answer, or the opposite: not appear in the top results and be cited as a source by an AI system. Without measuring the three layers, that contrast is invisible.
That is why the methodology does not choose a single layer. In the measurement phase all three are observed, because the analytical work is the same: understanding how the brand reaches a person who no longer browses, but asks.
SEO: position. AEO: presence in the answer. GEO: mention and citation inside generated text.
Here it is worth being precise, because they are two different things and it is easy to confuse them.
Search Intelligence is the methodology. It is the one Sageo Estudio already applies: the five-step cycle, the order, interpretation before intervention, measuring again.
SAGEO Intelligence is a future software product: a platform designed to analyze a brand's presence in AI systems. It is not finished yet and it is not offered as something available. When it exists, it will be a tool at the service of the methodology, not a substitute for it. It will automate part of the collection work; it will not replace the interpretation phase, which remains a human judgment about data that you have to know how to read.
The distinction matters for a practical reason: the methodology does not depend on any tool. It can be applied with what exists today. It is a sequence of well-ordered questions, not a software license.
Search Intelligence is a working methodology, not a promise of results. It does not guarantee positions, mentions or citations. Search and artificial intelligence systems change their criteria often, and no intervention ensures a specific effect. What the methodology does offer is a documented diagnosis and a way of checking whether a change produced the expected effect.
The cycle does not conclude because the terrain it measures does not stop either. A search engine adjusts its criteria, an AI system changes the sources it prefers, a competitor rewrites its content, a question appears that nobody was asking six months earlier. A measurement is a photograph of a moment, not a permanent property of the brand.
Hence the fifth step is to return to the first. The cycle is travelled again, and that repetition is not a sign that something went wrong: it is the method working. There is no final state of resolved visibility, just as there is no definitive version of a brand. What exists is a position that can be understood, adjusted and checked again.
Search Intelligence, at bottom, is a way of refusing to work with assumptions. Before intervening, you measure. After intervening, you measure again. And when the result is not the expected one, that is also a data point that is useful.
